For the 2023 season Alberta’s Tech Transfer Program (TTP) and the Government of Alberta’s Bee Health Assurance Team (BHAT) have made a shift towards looking directly at Varroa mite genetics. We will be sending mites from our surveillance programs to the National Bee Diagnostic Center to be analyzed for mutations associated with amitraz resistance.
We plan to sample mites collected through our Colony Health Monitoring Program. Beekeepers participating in this service that have high mite levels will receive results in 2024 following analysis.
