Supporting Healthy Colonies & Productive Operations

The Alberta Beekeepers Commission (ABC) Tech Transfer Program (TTP) is a custom-built program designed to support the unique needs of Alberta’s commercial beekeeping, pollination, and honey industry.

Led by a team of experienced apiary technicians and specialists, the TTP delivers colony health monitoring services, diagnostics, personalized consultation, and research-backed tools and training specifically tailored to commercial beekeepers. By combining applied research, education, and hands-on expertise, the program ensures that Alberta producers have access to the guidance, tools, and resources they need to maintain healthy colonies, optimize productivity, and operate efficiently and sustainably.

A cornerstone of TTP’s service offering is the Colony Health Monitoring (CHM) program. CHM provides beekeepers with colony health assessments including sampling, laboratory diagnostics, data analysis and actionable recommendations. Through CHM, producers gain timely insights into the health of their colonies, including the detection of pests, diseases, and viral pressures that can affect both colony performance and honey production. These results are complemented by personalized guidance from the TTP team, helping beekeepers make informed management decisions that strengthen colony resilience, reduce losses, and improve overall productivity throughout the season.
