Janine and I started off with a small grain farm close to Eatonia, Saskatchewan. The bees started as a hobby, then a passionate side line to the struggling grain farm. Running 300 honey bee colonies from a 24×24 car garage with no running water. Janine said ” I did bees just to get out of driving the tractor”. ? I’ve heard later in life that there were more than a few neighbors that bet on how long before I lost the family farm. We now are 4600 colonies of honey bees mostly for pollination. We produce about 700 barrels of honey, two tons of wax and produce 2000 queens annually for our own use. We can extract about 10 barrels a day when things keep running.

Sweetheart Pollinators/Janeil Ent Inc located 7 km SW of Eatonia, Saskatchewan, requires 3 APIARY TECHNICIANS, NOC84120 for the 2025 season. Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in a Canadian Commercial Apiary. Full time (40 hours per week) seasonal employment from March to September, 2025. Wage start at $18.00 to $21.00 per hour, depending on experience, with possible bonuses.Housing available. Duties will include: caring for honeybee colonies, moving bees into and out of pollination fields, monitoring and controlling bee health, keeping all required records, honey harvesting and extraction, construction of new equipment, repairing vehicles and other equipment, driving of vehicles, operate and maintain other apiary equipment. Some evening and weekend work required. Applicants must be in good physical condition (able to lift at least 70 pounds) A valid drivers license is required.
