2022 Honey BBQ Contest – Porkapalooza

Holy Smokes, What a Sweet Opportunity!

Prepare the hickory and poise your basting brush – this summer is off to sweet and smoky start as ABC partners with the Porkapalooza BBQ Festival for the inaugural Honey BBQ Contest!

This year the ABC is excited to announce that we’re partnering with the Porkapalooza BBQ Festival to host an ancillary honey BBQ challenge. Participating teams will be asked to create an award-winning BBQ dish that features the unique flavours and characteristics of pure Alberta honey.

The only criteria for the honey BBQ contest is that teams must use pure Alberta honey and a BBQ/smoker – that’s it! Teams will be tasked with designing and developing their own unique BBQ dish that best showcases their BBQ/smoking expertise and the delicate flavours and characteristics of pure Alberta honey.

Participants will be judged by an experienced panel of judges, with prizes awarded to the top three BBQ teams.

How to get YOUR local pure Alberta honey featured at this event

Porkapalooza BBQ teams are very passionate about their craft and always looking to bring new flavor profiles and techniques to their BBQ creations.

The ABC wants to help connect local Alberta honey producers to participating BBQ teams to help foster potential brand partnerships, and raise awareness of the amazing variety and range of pure, local Alberta  honey. We are asking honey producers to either:

  1. Reach out to BBQ teams directly by reviewing the details of participating teams at: porkapaloozabbq.blogspot.com/p/2022-bbq-teams.html; or
  2. Send an email to info@porkapalooza.ca requesting your business info (including details of your honey/honey products, and contact info) shared with participating Porkapalooza teams.

About the event

Porkapalooza is a world-class cooking competition, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). This two-day festival will see 42 teams go cheek-to-cheek (or flank to fillet, or rib to round or…) in an all-out BBQ smoke out to be potentially crowned best overall BBQ’er in Alberta.

The Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying barbeque, is the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with over 20,000 members worldwide.
